Robyn Taylor & Steve Grainger – February 5th, 1993
Michael Jenkins & Trish Nicholls – February 5th, 2015
Over 20 years ago Steve Grainger founded the company in premises on the corner of Bideford and Freshwater Streets. Back then Masterlink only sold gaming software; however it soon became apparent, that to successfully sell software, you also needed to provide appropriate hardware. At that time, computers were in their infancy and our customers soon sought technical advice and assistance. Once Masterlink’s first full time technician was employed the company had achieved its own momentum, growing in leaps and bounds from year to year.
It soon became apparent that more space was needed, so after just 12 short months new premises were purchased and the store relocated to it’s present location at shop 5, 486 The Esplanade. Extra services and products were soon added in response to the ever increasing tourism market and population of Hervey Bay. An internet cafe, equipment hire such as a data projector and onsite technical support for residential and business customers to name but a few.
Often we don’t realise how quickly things change! It’s shocking to consider that on special in 1995 a 286-16 computer with a star printer would cost you $2499. To look at Masterlink Computers today with its bright modern interior, highly qualified staff and full range of products and services. You would understand our amazement as we thumbed through our album.
But changed as it has, Masterlink has a long way to go yet. We are introducing a raft of innovative ideas, products and services – while keeping true to our mission statement. “To provide good old fashioned service – with a smile!”.
2016 - Dominos
Domino's arrives next door, and with it a lot of changes.
2015 - Something In The Water
As the major sponsor of a community based film called "Something In The Water". We put on our glad rags for the gala event at the local cinema. All proceeds from the film have been donated to worthwhile organisations within Queensland.
2014 - A Little Piece Of Italy
Cafe Cavour opened it's doors to bring us all a little bit of Italy. Although popular, unfortunately after only a few months the doors closed, due to a spate of burglaries, personal circumstances and the tough economic climate.
2014 - Unconditional Love
Masterlink through it's association with motels throughout the Wide Bay. Had a "blanket" drive, to collect bedding for animals at Hervey Bay's Animal Refuge. Mavis after holding "Possum", decided to take him home for a week. While "Dudley" the 3-legged dog, made it on to the local news as Hervey Bays "surfing dog".
2014 - It's Not Easy Being Green
With a global move towards lowering environmental impacts, and increasing power prices. It was decided to implement a "green program". This year we commenced recycling electronic components, general waste and installed solar energy.
2013 - Community Garden
On Saturday Dec. 7th we were invited to the Community Gardens official opening in Halcro Street, Pt Vernon. The garden is a place where people can meet with a common interest in growing their own healthy garden produce. It also provides the perfect environment to socialise and relax. The garden caters for anyone, including the disabled and elderly.
2013 - Yesteryear
When promoting your business, you do some crazy things. As sponsors of a seniors live radio show. We were "encouraged" to get into the spirit of the evening.
2011 - Garage Sale
Storm Clouds and Brollies were the order of the day. However, the wet weather didn't dampen spirits.
2011 - Floods
The floods of 2011 affected everyone. Hervey Bay was isolated for over a week, with milk and other perishables being flown in. Suppliers and business (some of which didn't survive}. Struggled to continue trading through extreme conditions.
2010 - Sunday Markets
"Socks" the clown, and her helper hand out hundreds of balloons at local markets.
2010 - Down Sizing
In response to increasing costs, including competitors, rates, power, wages and the internet. It was decided to cut the size of the store in half.
2010 - New Look
The store was painted "battleship grey". We believed that if it was good enough for her majesties navy. It was good enough for us... we also got the paint cheap!
2009 - Bare Cheek
Just 3 days after take-over. Our front windows had a bolder thrown through them. That night we lost 3 laptops. Although the culprits were caught, Nothing made up for the extensive damage to the store. It's scum like this that jeopardise jobs, believing that everything should be handed to them.
2009 - New Frontage
On the first week of take-over. The old ranch-slider doors were ripped out, and with new glazing installed.
2009 - In Need Of Love
On take-over, we had a massive job ahead of us. The doors closed at 6pm Friday night, and by 8.30 Monday. We had moved piles of rubbish, re-painted, re-organised, built new shelves and brought in new stock... We were exhaused.
